Cytuję:
STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN -- May 31, 2000 -- Pityriasis versicolor is a common
superficial skin infection that is not serious or life-threatening but can
cause considerable discomfort and inconvenience to the patient, especially
in the summer when greater areas of skin are exposed.
Lamisil or terbinafine is a highly active antifungal agent with good
activity against a number of dermatophytes but with limited activity against
some yeast infections. Pityriasis versicolor is caused by a lipophilic
yeast, Pityrosporum.
In a study reported by M Poljacki, MD, and colleagues from the Clinic for
Dermatovenereological Diseases, in Novi Sad, Yugoslavia, terbinafine was
shown to be highly effective in the treatment of pityriasis versicolor.
Their results were presented on Tuesday (May 30th) in a poster at the 10th
European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, in
Stockholm, Sweden.
The study included 16 men and 13 women aged between 18 and 60, all of whom
who had mycologically proven pityriasis versicolor. The length of time the
patients had had clinical symptoms ranged from two months to two years.
Pozdrowienia
Piotr
