Sorrel is a small, annual plant which grows to a height of about six
feet. After
flowering, the petals of the individual blooms wither and drop
off leaving behind the
protective sepals. The sepals gradually swell and become
fleshy and succulent. They
are usually red or white in colour. It is these large, swollen
sepals which are used as
the "fruit." They are usually ready for picking just before
Christmas - making
